ABOUT JANE MILLINGTON

Jane Millington’s artworks allude to the beauty and enormity of our waters. Jane is interested in capturing those ephemeral snapshots of our oceans and seas. To share and impart the perpetual motion and moods of our waters that are fleeting from one moment to the next. In much the same way as our oceans connects us all, she connects to people through the visual panes of her paintings.

 

In creating a painting Jane says ‘there is an intimacy, an affection for the subject we are putting down on the canvas. I aim to pull the audience into each artwork, to share this brief, intimate moment and elicit an emotional response’.

 

Jane is drawn to manipulating oil paints in different ways to immerse the audience in her images; to enable the viewer to be absorbed in a sensory experience that is rich in atmosphere and understanding.

 

As a former diplomat, Jane has lived by the sea in many different countries. Her practice is to undertake plein air sketches before returning to her studio to finish each artwork.

Jane works in a variety of sized canvases from small (20 x 20cm) to large custom size (up to 3m).
