JANE MILLINGTON
PAINTINGS OF AUSTRALIA'S OCEANS & SEAS

Jane Millington’s artworks depict the dichotomy between the perpetual movement of the water and its ability to evoke a sense of emotional stability and well-being.  Her irregular ellipses of flattened colour and multiple layers of glazing inject her oil paintings with movement and depth. The result is a sense of both realism and paint as she embeds mood in each piece to elicit an emotional response.

DISCOVERY

For Jane, the healing nature of the water and the interplay of light on it, evokes a sense of discovery and clarity that puts into perspective the problems in our lives. There is a security, an understanding of place, that comes from contemplating the enormity of the sea, both in its expanse and its enduring nature.

LAYERING

Rhythmic, fluid mark-making techniques and meticulous layers of brushwork, result in the feeling that the viewer is standing at the water’s edge. Her scale ranges from small vignettes to atmospheric, endless seascapes.

Light

Painting is an understanding of light, how it creates depth and tone to create a mood in each artwork.

Story-telling

There's a unique place for visual story-telling through art. It is an age old tradition that promotes shared understandings.

Energy

Every painting has its own pulse, an energy that promotes the beauty and story of a place.
